Artist Control/DIY approach to labels Wednesday 26 April, 6-7pm, venue P What is "selling out"? Is your own label as an artist the solution to "total control"? Does a smaller label mean more control? Best & Worse deals? Is your own label a necessity if you can't get a deal? With Nick Burgess, Head of A&R Virgin Records, James Endeacott (ex-Rough Trade A&R, now Director 1965 Records, a Joint Venture with SonyBMG) , Geoff Davies (Probe Records). Chair: Rob Strachan (lecturer Institute of Popular Music, Uni of Liverpool, also musician, organiser Hive festival)

Getting used to a different kind of life can be a challenge after years in a band or as a solo artist. What comes next? What do you do after you get dropped? What can the experiences prepare you for? Hear some stories and ask some questions about alternative career paths. With: Swiss (So Solid Crew), Keith Mullen (The Farm, now label manager, lecturer), Dolan Hewison (New FADS, now director GMMAZ), Martin Bimrose (Mo-ho-bi-sho-pi, now group operations manager Barfly chain), Paul Speed (River City People, now director Elevator rehearsal rooms & recording studio, manager).
