MATHEW ST FESTIVAL AXEDThey've gone and cancelled the Mathew St Festival during the 800th birthday year because of "health and safety issues" due to building work at the Pier Head. What. The. 2753.
I'm absolutely furious, not least because this was the first year I've been able to go in a long time, but also because it's going to look utterly ridiculous for the city to cancel one of its main summer attractions because of building work that it KNEW was going to happen months in advance! Why oh why is the culture company so retarded?!
I really don't believe it, it's just so monumentally stupid I keep thinking it's a joke or something. Please if anyone finds something where I can petition, protest or do anything to vent my rage at the people discussing what's a safe capacity for Mathew St - an open festival with open air stages which anyone out of the thousands of residents and visitors might wander into, which therefore DOES NOT HAVE A CAPACITY - let me know.
Grrrrrah!

you didnt mention we were playing too
its a disgrace, i dont understand how the council could be so incompentant over the situation. its bad for the city, think of all those people who have booked hotel place to be fobbed off! its a major error of misjudgement

they could have held some of it in Sefton Park

Yeah I saw the front cover of the Echo in the shop but was too tight to buy it, it does seem ridiculous and it's extra gutting because Major Major would have played. Roll on 2009

I should hope so too, it would be a PR disaster to cancel it, plus I would have to plan to do something else for the weekend like go to the all-day event at the Picket to see up and coming pop'n'roll band Major Major.
Well here's hoping it will be sorted out, otherwise I say the bands just busk near where they were meant to be performing anyway.

I really hope they sort out a new venue but time is running out, it took them 11 days to do the last health and safety assessment. Which they ingeniously only started on the 20th of July. So it doesnt look very good

The latest news on icLiverpool is that Korova, Zanzibar and Barfly have all stepped in to put on the gigs, and hopefully more will book bands in so that everyone can play. It'll just move inside.

theres more news that they are trying to organise a backup plan to keep it outside but elsewhere within the city, hopefully this will happen.

It's all very fishy-political like. It seems like the Culture Company waited until Bradley was on holiday before cancelling it, so he wouldn't be able to prevent it. Probably use the money they save on more canape receptions. What has the Culture Company actually *done* for the city? I am genuinely interested to see whether or not they've been orchestrating a load of stuff or, like the recent news article suggested, they've just been holding parties for the city's VIPs. Oh well, looking good for Mathew St anyway
