Covers for Major Major?

Has anyone got any ideas of covers that we could do? Now....i mean ones that would suit us a band (so no rare but weird radiohead bootlegs emmersoN!!!!!) If you think of original covers ( u know wot i mean!) ones that have never been done before that would be great! doesnt matter if they have though!

Nah, its gotta be Idioteque all you need to buy if an analogue synthesiser you can get a cheap one for around £3000.

Alternativly if you don't want to pay that amount of money(or don't want to have to dance round on stage like Thom Yorke) Should i stay or should i go by The Clash would be a good song for you to cover.

Yer get the rs200 and the rs8000 best £4000 you'll ever spend - there's even a picture of god himself (jonny greenwood) using them both on the website.

On a more serious note (hahahha note and we're talking about music... nevermind Rolling Eyes) I would enjoy a few bars of "Follow Me Around" before the hustle...
jamie

i think you could do a mean version of johnny b good
Gibbo

I'd love to see you tackle a Beatles song, although obviously not a really famous one. "Back In The USSR" or something. And your whole use of backing vocals on a lot of songs would suit "Damaged Goods" by Gang Of Four down to the ground.
James

I know I've mentioned this but: Sweet Dreams; although it has been covered - still pretty original, and you guys can put your own style on; which potentially could sound fantastic
Gibbo

You'd need a sexy female vocal though to make it work.

"Brand New Cadillac" by The Clash - a really underrated Clash song!
James

would'nt really - marylin manson did it in a real goth way, although not the style that major major should do it in!

James Blunt covers, noone has done them....maybe for a good reason!
Louis

Mamma Mia by ABBA
Dave

Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks
Dave

How about Turnin' Japanese by The Vapors?
I'm not sure how well you would do it but I can guarantee that it would be the most hilarious thing I've ever seen

Why did I always think that was by the kinks?
Louis

Made of Stone by the Stone Roses would be good

because youre special
Gibbo

I like the Kinks but much of their stuff sounds the same. "Sunny Afternoon" is a brilliant song though, I love it muchly.

Conor Major Major

Ditajane

dont come back to m street again *shakes fist*
StinkyP

The Clash - Brand New Cadillac. Boss song.
Dave

Ditajane wrote:

I bet they're shitting themselves now
"Oh God, she's waving her fist, run away!"

That's the funniest mental picture I've imagined since Mr Chimpspank
Ditajane

yes they are shitting them selves.
all i need to do is unplug the life support machine and thats the end of them.
Major Neil

i thought the buzzcocks were BOSS live. saw them at mathew st festival!
Dave

Yeah some of their relatively unknown stuff sounds just like their hits but when they do get a hit, it becomes a classic. You Really Got Me, Lola, Waterloo Sunset, Days, Dedicated Follower of Fashion and Sunny Afternoon are all excellent and would all definitely be somewhere in my top 100 songs
Gibbo

I did wonder what the Buzzcocks would be like reformed. I wish I'd been able to see them. If they were shit I wouldn't be surprised - the only decent reunion recently has been Pixies; Dinosaur Jr. and Gang Of Four were apparently shitty. Plus Cream are old and useless now.

Please don't mock Cream. It huts the heartstrings. However; Dinosaur Jr. were absolute shit at Leeds: the worst band I saw all weekend; how they've survived as a band, I have no idea.
James

I got the Kinks hits a bit ago, and was surprised by how many I knew but didn't know they were by the Kinks. Sunny Afternoon one my favs
Dave

James

Dave

Well you did, it's that one with "I gotta big fat mama, tryin to squeeze meee" then you kind of all trailed off at the end when you go "in the summertime........

it was hilarious
James

oh cheers, yeah, your effort was no fuckin better!

Right, next time we go out, whether there's karaoke or not, your singin!
James

No offence to Liam, but I think you should do an acoustic version of a popular song, or even one of yours; that would be good
Major Neil

Take Me in Yours by Squeeze

duno y im suggesting, i should just talk 2 band really!!!
Dave

Do a cover of a song that has no guitars or drums like.....er.....Beethoven's Ninth
Elgi the Woo

He could play the tamborine, or dance around like Bez, hahahaha.

I think you would do a good job of "Love Machine" then maybe you could meet Girls Aloud and they'd all be my friends.

Liam, Major Major drummer

i think love machine would be great. honestly i do. this is not one of those stupid things that gets said on the forum.
Conor Major Major

Hold on? Stupid things get said on this forum? I think you've been at the wacky backy!
jamie

if you did wuthering heights you'd become my most favouritestest band ever. moreso.
Dave

That'd be great, they could do a rock version of it, that'd definitely work
plus it'd be funny seeing if Conor does the high notes
James

everybody wants 2 be a cat, in the aristocats!!
Louis

Pawl

COVERS

i think you should cover either 'can't explain' or 'my generation' by the who, it would be like two overwieght men making love to my ears!
Louis

Wuthering Heights, come on
Gibbo

I know some of the band are fans of The Clash so I say do "Guns Of Brixton" - the live version (on Live: From Here To Eternity) is very different from the studio version and is fucking awesome.
Major Neil

Conor Major Major

Dave

Hey hey hey no band talk! You're ruining the magic of how you work
EmmersoN

and they are so well organised!
Charlie

Going back to the original idea of the post....
well i think Major Major should do a cover of Panic! At The Disco! Mabye 'I write sin not tradgies' or 'Lying is the most fun a girl can have with her clothes on'
You's would be absoluty amazing at these songs - even though you already are! And plus they are very catchy and upbeat - straight up your street! Razz x x x
jamie

Confused
Charlie

What with the face Jamie?! Confused
I think its a good idea! Cool
*amy*

hey

me 2 yano charlie an i knew u wud say panic! at the disco! ur obsesed with it lol
Dave

I was very impressed with the two cover songs performed last night at Kit's house (Make Me Smile and Town Called Malice). They were expertly done and were a perfect choice. Maybe it was the drink, or maybe the raw potato I ate for no reason or maybe I just enjoyed them because they were just done so darn brilliantly, well done
Conor Major Major

Thanks
Ben1

how about 1977 by the clash, you can all play it already as you can play All day and all the night by the kinks.
Ben1

Ben1 wrote:

You could also play last of the small time playboys
Gibbo

Isn't that the worst song of Morrissey's new album of godawful crap?*

*may be some bias there
EmmersoN

Nah, the morrissey song is The Last Of The Famous International Playboys which I haven't heard but I have heard of so I don't think its on his most recent album!
Gibbo

Oh then it must be the Dirty Pretty Things one. Must have been influenced by Morrissey though
EmmersoN

Yeah the names of the songs are clearly based on one another (I can't be bothered checking which one came first!)
Ben1

Nothing, I said nothing
Liam, Major Major drummer

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
no one is suposed to know
Conor Major Major

I think it is because Last of The Small Town Playboys has the same chords as Espadrilles. Sounds Nothing like it though
Liam, Major Major drummer

oooooooh
edits are confusing
EmmersoN

Indeed
Ben1

I cant even remember what i said,
EmmersoN

I can
Conor Major Major

You know all though
EmmersoN

I forgot why Neil called you a bastard in that thread! (athough there were so many possible reasons!!)
Ben1

(upside down ?)Que es?
Dave

Everybody's got something to hide (except me and my monkey)- The Beatles

I think we talked about this ages ago but you should definitely do a cover of it, it's perfect

High notes to prove Conor is a castrato? Check
Not as well known as other Beatles songs making it good cover material? Check
Cowbell? Check
Bit where music stops and you sing 'come on come on' repetitively in a quirky Major Major type way? Check
Strange legal loophole entitling me to royalties? Check

It's perfect
Liam, Major Major drummer

wow
someone could gestate a baby in the space between those posts
Scratch-n-sniff

I'm at work in the hospital right now and I can tell you somebody did!
Liam, Major Major drummer
