Here's the article I wrote about the band for
The Liverpool music scene is highly respected around the country and deservedly aggrandised by scousers themselves, not least for the sixties’ Mersey sound but also the catchy, absorbing music that has emanated from the Liverpudlian twang ever since.
Into this rich spectrum come Major Major who have already carved out a popular niche for themselves with gigs around the country and stints on radio, recently being voted the BBC’s unsigned band of the month and soon to play Liverpool Music Week for the second time.
Using visceral guitar riffs and gung-ho lyrical tales of colourful characters, Major Major draw upon a vast bank of influences from Hendrix to flamenco via the poetry of Tim Burton to create songs your brain will grab hold of and bear-hug. Comprising of singer Conor, guitarist Neil, bassist Louis and drummist Liam the band are quick to set themselves apart from the insipid indie bands of late, focusing more on a rich, vibrant blend of musical genres. “Rock, disco, punk, cabaret, folk and jazz” Louis lists with Neil adding that “In one song we can mix two or three different styles”
As for the lyrical side of things, inspiration comes from the quick-witted hemisphere of hip-hop where portraits of eccentrics, heroes and the tragic are deftly painted with ease. “I just like the wordplay of rap” Conor dutifully jokes. “I don’t kill bitches or anything”
Expert showmen, the band dominate the stage, refusing to let a second of silence pass as they whip the audience into a joyful frenzy. Listening to crowd-favourite The Fixer is like walking into a party that’s already in full swing.
This fusion of genres, influences and characterisations coupled with the awareness that they are putting on a show is something you’ll find with many good bands although it falls to Liam to describe how Major Major differ from their contemporaries. “Imagine your favourite indie band, but a lot better"
